We can.

The Mayan Forest, a jewel under threat
  • The Mayan Forest is the largest American tropical forest outside the Amazon.

  • It is home to the largest population of northern jaguar, with over XXX jaguars.

  • It is by far the largest and oldest managed tropical forest, with over XXXX acres and over 1,000 years in continuous management, since the days of the Mayan Empire.

  • It is perhaps the only tropical forest in the World that regenerates indefinitely under intensive human use and management.

  • It is being deforested at a rate of X%, one of the fastest in the world, for conversion into low productivity agriculture and cattle farming.

WHY WE ARE DOING IT

1. To regenerate key ecological systems

2. To produce quality food for a growing population

3. To lift farmers out of poverty

  • Global population will peak at 9 to 10 billion people by 2030

  • 20,000 hectares of forest are lost every day for agriculture (27 soccer fields every minute)

  • 37 million people in Mexico live with less than $5 USD per day

  • 100,000 people migrate from rural Mexico to USA every year
